Easy Italian Food Recipes

There are many ways to find really great, really delicious, really easy Italian food recipes. In fact, most Italian food recipes are both quick and easy.

Pasta dishes are some of the easiest Italian food recipes around. In many cases sauces can be prepared ahead of time, or in the same amount of time that it takes to boil the pasta. One such sauce can be made by combining a large can of whole tomatoes (good quality tomatoes such as San Marzano are recommended), a little bit of olive oil, salt and pepper to taste, and a handful of fresh, torn basil leaves. Cook all of these ingredients in a skillet, breaking up the tomatoes with a wooden spoon. Add some red wine to get the sauce to the desired consistency and simmer until thickened. Served over any type of pasta, spaghetti, or flat noodle with a simple tossed salad and some crusty bread on the side makes for a quick, delicious meal.

Soups, stews, and slow cooked braised meats can be started early in the day and left to simmer for hours. These types of easy Italian food recipes only need to be checked on a couple of times once they are underway. Serve these foods with a salad or seasonal cooked vegetables that have been roasted or sautéed with a bit of olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic, on the side, with a nice glass of wine and some fresh fruit for dessert and you have an instant, healthy, Italian meal.

There are many other types of easy Italian food recipes, such as Risotto, that are much simpler to make than most people think. While Risotto takes a bit of time due to the fact that the pot must be watched and stirred, it is quite easy to prepare. Start by sautéing the flavorings of your choice (mushrooms, onions, garlic, and peppers are commonly used), add the rice, and then the boiling water or the stock, and allow to simmer (stirring occasionally) until it reaches a creamy consistency.

Grilling meats, frying cutlets, and preparing cuts of fish are more examples found in easy Italian food recipes. By seasoning, adding a sauce and quickly poaching fish fillets; baking fish in easy casserole dishes; coating and frying up thin pieces of meat cutlets; or grilling various types of meats; a great Italian meal can be on the table in no time.

Easy, all-purpose pesto

Dominique Fontenille is a pesto purist. The Italian sauce, he says, doesn't need to be dressed up beyond the basic components: fresh basil, pine nuts, garlic and Parmesan cheese. "It's really good the way it is," the Sioux Falls chef says. "You can get a different kind of pesto, but to me, pesto is pesto. I like the more true ingredients." Pesto is proof that Italian food doesn't have to be ...
