Gourmet Italian Food

There are so many delectable treats that originate from the country of Italy. The extensive offerings of gourmet Italian food are imported to numerous countries allowing food lovers all over the world to enjoy these unique flavors.

From breakfast foods to dessert and everything in between, there are gourmet Italian food items for everyone. One of the finest gourmet items to come from Italy is of course wine. Italy is home to vineyards and wine makers that date back centuries. Deep reds, crisp whites, and sparkling wines compliment any dish on any occasion. Specialty wine products such as Grappa and Prosecco add an extra special touch to a festive gathering.

Truffles, another gourmet Italian food product, are sure to please even the most distinguished palates. Black and white truffles can be used in pasta and meat dishes, salads, and risotto. These truffles are also made into sauces that can be used as a pate, on vegetable dishes, or as a seasoning in almost any recipe. Truffle oil is a wonderful gourmet item used for cooking, salads, and on breads. Truffles are also used in honey in Italy and provide a good deal of vitamins, minerals and enzymes for health.

An even more unique gourmet Italian food specialty is brandied cherries. These cherries are for adult consumption only, and can pack a bit of a punch since they have been marinated in a sweet brandy. Whether eaten straight out of the jar, used to spice up a cocktail, served over ice cream or cheesecake, or topping a piece of pound cake, this delicious treat is sure to please.

Of course one cannot forget all of the wonderful Italian cheeses. Cheese is quite possibly the most popular gourmet Italian food item in the world. Known for both sharp, and smooth cheeses, Italy is home to some of the very best cheese artisans. From Parmesan, peccorino, and Romano for crumbling, to mozzarella for topping, and macarpone for baking, the possibilities are endless.

Sausages, meat specialties (such as cappicola, proscuitto, and panchetta), olives, oils, vinegars, cookies, cakes, and coffees continue to be favorite gourmet Italian food items as well. With so many choices, and such wonderful, deep flavors, anyone can use these items to become an Italian chef in their very own kitchen.
