Italian Breakfast Food Recipes

There are many Italian breakfast food recipes available through many outlets. The internet is a wonderful resource for locating delicious breakfast recipes with complete instructions on preparation. There are several cookbooks on the market today that also provide Italian breakfast food recipes.

Italians prefer sweets in the morning. They are not a society that dines on bacon and eggs, omelets, or any sort of savory food. The most common Italian breakfast consists of cappuccino and a pastry of some sort. Cakes, cookies, brioche, even toast with a sweet jam are some of the most common foods consumed in the morning.

Another food commonly enjoyed for breakfast is Sweet Polenta, or Polenta di Viandanse. This Italian breakfast food recipe is prepared to have a sweeter taste than savory versions of polenta and is often served with milk or wine. To make this recipe, plain cornmeal polenta is seasoned with the zest of one lemon, two tablespoons of sugar, and a bit of flour. The lemon zest, sugar and flour is mixed into the polenta until a stiff dough is formed. This dough is then shaped into disks that are roughly the same diameter as the frying pan and flattened down, fairly thin. A small amount of oil is heated in the frying pan, and the polenta disk is then added and cooked on each side until browned. The disk is then served hot or cold, cut into wedges, with milk or a small glass of wine.

A delicious Italian breakfast food recipe for enjoying brioche like a local is very simple. Take this light, flaky bread and tear into pieces. A sweet jam, or honey is then spread on each piece and enjoyed with a steaming cup of Italian coffee, or glass of milk. Dunking a sweet piece of cake or a few Italian cookies in a steaming caffe latte or cappuccino is another great way to enjoy an authentic Italian breakfast.
